Thirteen families will come together to build a house this summer as A&E camera crews watch. Only one family, however, will get to move in when the house is finished.

That's the premise for "House of Dreams," a new series on A&E that's scheduled to begin production this summer. A premiere date hasn't been determined yet.

"There's real human drama at the heart of 'House of Dreams,' " says Nancy Dubuc, vice president for documentary programming at A&E. "These people don't just want a house, they need a home. They each have compelling personal stories that will unfold every week."

As the house goes up, the work crew will get smaller, with one family being "evicted" each week. The last remaining family will get to move into the house.

"House of Dreams" was developed by Granada USA, which has produced shows ranging from the highbrow "Forsyte Saga" on PBS to ABC's "I'm a Celebrity -- Get Me Out of Here!"
